Tools For Remodeling: In their broadest divisions, tools for remodeling fall into such classifications as (1) measuring and marking, (2) holding, (3) cutting and shaping, (4) fastening, and (5) striking. However, these categories are not mutually exclusive because some tools for remodeling have a variety of functions : certain metalworking hammers are used entirely for shaping; axes are striking tools for remodeling with cutting edges. The boring tools for remodeling are sometimes placed in a category by themselves, although they are basically cutting tools for remodeling; so are rasps and files.
So it is with the tools for remodeling used in cutting and shaping metal. They are much finer and harder than woodworking tools for remodeling, and some have functions which lie beyond the needs of present-day woodworkers—the taps and dies, for instance, used in cutting internal and external threads. Like other tools for remodeling, metalworking tools for remodeling exist in almost innumerable varieties according to their use in foundry, forge, and machine shop. |
